Perfect365 is an interesting tool which can give a new look to any photo portrait in a click.

Maybe you're hoping to upload a new photo of yourself to your Facebook account, for instance, but even the best one you have doesn't quite look right. No problem: install Perfect365, open the image, and you'll be able to tweak it with ease.

This may be as simple as choosing an option from the "Instant Look" panel. Click "Natural", say, and the program will automatically remove blemishes, soften skin and whiten teeth. "Smoky Eyes" begins to apply more effects, extending eyelashes, emphasising eye colour, even adding eye liner. "Honey" gets more drastic still, slimming the face and emphasising the nose, amongst other things, and there are 21 options to choose from in total.

If you need finer control, though, the right-hand pane shows you exactly what each "Instant Look" does, and redefine it to suit your needs. Don't like the "Slim face" look, for instance? Then you can adjust the intensity of the effect by dragging a slider, or turn it off altogether by clicking a box. And it's just as easy to, say, lift the cheeks, deepen the smile, recolour eyes, whiten teeth and more.

The success of all this will depend on Perfect365 automatically detecting your subject's eyes, nose, mouth and face position, though. If this doesn't happen properly then the results will look rather odd, but fortunately you can manually tweak the various settings to get everything working again (just click Adjust Key Points).

And once you've finished, the retouched picture may be saved as a graphics file, or shared directly on Twitter, Facebook or Flickr.

Please note, the free version of the program will only save images at a maximum resolution of 600 x 600, but upgrading to the full version will remove that restriction. The price is $29.99, and you can order by clicking Save As > Upgrade from within the program.

Verdict

Some of its options aren't so effective, but Perfect365 does have quite a few capable retouching tweaks on offer, and the program is also highly configurable and very easy to use.
