4G iPad mini UK release date

When will the 4G iPad mini be available in the UK?

When will the 4G iPad mini (review here) be available in the UK? We bring you the latest on 4G iPad mini UK release date.

The iPad mini with cellular connectivity should be available in the UK in the next week or so. Some customers who pre-ordered the iPad mini LTE were sent email notifications late last week, letting them know that their 4G-enabled iPads will be shipping within five days.

When Apple launched the iPad mini it also announced that the 7in tablet would come in both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi and 3G/4G flavours, here in the UK. But the initial launch of both the iPad mini and the fourth-generation iPad with Retina Display consisted of only the less-expensive Wi-Fi-only products. At the time in-store staff at various Apple Stores would say only that the cellular-enabled products would be available only in 'a few weeks'.

The online Apple Store is saying that the Wi-Fi + Cellular flavours of the iPad mini will ship in 'Late November'. But that should be countered by the fact that a Wi-Fi only iPad mini purchased in this way ships only after two weeks, while high-street Apple Stores have stock. In other words, we'd expect the 4G iPad mini to be in stores before that 'Late November' date.

Keep checking back and we'll update this story as we know more.

4G iPad mini UK release data: why it matters

The cellular versions of both the iPad mini and iPad 4 are the first iPads to offer 4G connectivity.

The iPad mini packs in 7.9in screen to a similar-sized device to the 7in Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD tablets. That difference is noticeable, and in a good way too. The iPad mini has a 4:3, 1024 x 768 display, meaning it can run all the iPad apps in existance - a big advantage over Android-based rivals.

It's also lightweight for a tablet device - less than half the weight of the fourth-generation iPad. IOt's noticeably thinner and lighter than the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD.

The iPad mini has dual-band Wi-Fi alongside channel bonding, which should ensure it surfs across a less-crowded band, and attains greater speeds. It also has two great cameras (both video and stills). In our productivity tests the iPad mini performed well, too. See also: Group test: what's the best tablet PC?
