Max Payne 3 is well-suited for three displays. To be able to run the game on three Full HD monitors you will need a high-end graphics card with at least 2 GB of video memory. Out of the single-GPU cards only the nVidia GeForce GTX 680 and AMD Radeon HD 7970 were able to reach 60 fps or more on Normal settings. The nVidia GeForce GTX 670 and Radeon HD 7950 fall just short of 60 fps. Since 40 fps is enough to enjoy this game, you're fine with a GeForce GTX 660 or a Radeon HD 7870.
In the Hardware.Info testlab our testing engineers are busy expanding and overhauling our graphics card benchmarks. One of the games we'll be using form now on to test new GPUs is Max Payne 3. We tested 24 current graphics cards with this game, and compared the benchmark results.
The third installment in the Max Payne series came out in June for the PC. It's a DirectX 11 game developed for the latest generation graphics card. It received positive reviews, the PC version has a MetaCritic score of 87/100. Click here for the IGN review.
We tested Max Payne in two resolutions, Full HD (1920x1080) and 3x Full HD (5760x1080), and with two different settings (Normal and Highest). Max Payne 3 does not come with a built-in benchmark, so in order to create identical testing conditions we walk the same route in one of the first levels. We used FRAPS to measure the average framerate.
We used our standard graphics card testing system, consisting of an Intel Core i7 3960X, 16 GB Corsair DDR3-1600 memory and an ASUS P9X79 Pro motherboard. The drivers we used are the AMD Catalyst version 12.11 and Nvidia GeForce drivers version 310.33.
