Dell is thinking small with the launch of the Inspiron Zino HD. It's a mini desktop PC that measures just 197x197mm.
The tiny PC has a choice of seven interchangeable coloured lids and three patterned ones. Dell believes customers increasingly want to personalise their home technology and perhaps even choose a colour scheme to match their decor. The Piano Black lid is included in the price, while extra lids are priced at £20 each.

Asus hopes consumers impressed by the positive feedback about Windows 7 will be on the scout for a powerful new PC in a tiny box.
The Asus Eee Box EB1501 runs Microsoft's brand-new Windows 7 operating system off an Intel Atom N330 dual-core processor with nVidia ION graphics and, despite costing a modest £399, offers HDMI high-definition video support.

Apple has launched its largest iMac all in one PC to date: the 27in Apple iMac has already arrived at the PC Advisor Test Centre. Our first impression: "It's a colossus".
The 27in backlit LED screen with 16:9 aspect ratio conceals the most powerful iMac Apple has yet produced. The top-of-the-range model has a dual core 3.06GHz processor. Other processor options are a 2.66GHz Intel Core i5 or 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. Apple includes 4GB of RAM the standard build, but it's possible to fit up to 16GB in the iMac. The screen resolution, meanwhile, stretches to 2560x1440 pixels.

HP has launched a multi-touch notebook PC that it claims is the first of its kind to hit the market. The £799 HP Touchsmart dv3 is a 13.3in laptop in a clamshell design.
Running Windows 7, the successor to Microsoft's Vista operating system which goes onsale next week, the dv3 goes onsale the same day as the new OS (22 October).

BFG (Big Friendly Giant), has launched an 18.4in gaming laptop with nVidia SLI graphics and up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
The Deimos X-10 can take two 1GB GeForce GTX 280M graphics cards and has a proper 1920x1080-pixel resolution screen. Customers can choose between an Intel Core 2 Duo, Quad or Extreme processor and can have up to 1.5TB hard disk.

Sony has launched an all-in-one PC designed to take advantage of the touchscreen capabilities in the about-to-launch Windows 7 operating system.
The Sony VAIO L Series PC is a 24in flatscreen display that plays high-definition video and TV programmes and that conceals a powerful home computer. It comes in a choice of 32bit or 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

Riddle me this: what's less than an inch thick, weighs 1.9kg and starts at around £470? If you read the headline, you might have already figured this one out - it's HP's new Pavilion DM3.
What is still puzzling, though, is why we haven't seen more machines try to encroach on this in-betweener category of "ultraslim" laptops.

Mesh Computers has launched its Ice5 range of desktop PCs that are powered by Intel's Core i5 processors.
The Ice5 LE is priced at £599 inc VAT and features 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, as well as a 1GB ATi HD4870 Graphics accelerator, DVD writer and Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium.

Fujitsu Siemens claims the Celsius Ultra is the "fastest air-cooled gaming PC on the planet", and our hands-on test at IFA suggest it's packing some serious horsepower: the machine ripped through the notoriously hard-to-handle Microsoft Flight Simulator X without a hint of a stutter.
The Fujitsu Siemens Celsius Ultra has an Intel Core i7 975 Extreme processor, a massive 12GB of DDR3 RAM, more than two terabytes of memory divided into three separate drives, two GeForce 295 GTX graphics cards, Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium audio and a Blu-ray reader.

Word is that portable PCs are about to get displays that expand horizontally. A North American company called gScreen has designed a laptop display that can nearly double in width.

A picture can tell a thousand words. And if you display enough pictures every second, you get a good illusion of 2D reality. That's how we all enjoy film and TV, and it's increasingly how we find ourselves interacting with our PCs.
As computers move further from the purely textual command-line experience and toward the cuddly graphical interface, so has their graphics capability expanded. Hugely.

We got pretty excited when we came across details online of the Touch Book - it's a touch-sensitive laptop along similar lines to a tablet PC but its screen doesn't just swivel; it's actually detachable. It's also priced at an eye-popping $399. A tablet only version is also available for $100 less.
Specifications include an 8.9in (1024x600-pixel) screen, ARM OMAP3 processor, 8GB of SSD (solid state) memory, 802.11 a, b, g and n Wi-Fi, speakers, four USB ports and a battery life of around 10 hours.

PC World has launched a new laptop range under its Advent brand. The Advent Altro is an ultraportable with a thickness of just 21mm - giving it the edge in the svelte stakes over other sub-£600 models.
The £599 Advent Altro mimics models such as the iconic Apple MacBook Air by having a 13.3in screen and has a touchpad that can recognise users' gestures. The Altro runs off an Intel ULV (ultra-low voltage) processor and comes with 3GB of RAM.

Acer has unveiled a new line of nettop PCs under its Veriton business brand. The Acer Veriton N260G nettop costs £195 inc VAT.
The Acer Veriton N260G eschews the bright white and blue colour scheme of Acer's consumer-focused Aspire Revo nettop and instead proffers a smart grey exterior that conceals an Intel Atom N280 processor and up to 2GB of RAM.

It's been a while since we've seen a brand-new media centre - Sony's Vaio all-in-one PCs and the HP Touchsmart all in one PCs having largely filled this niche. However, Compro is banking on consumer interest in high-definition video and offers H.264 playback on its VideoMate T1000W HD Network Media Centre.
The T1000W has a Full HD 1,920x1,080p flatpanel display, a DVB-T TV tuner, HDMI and S-Video connections, wireless LAN and Ethernet. The Network Media Centre comes with up to 1TB of storage and wireless g networking.

In the final months of Windows Vista's reign as the top dog at Microsoft, around 64 percent of PC Advisor users are still running Windows XP on their PCs.
According to anonymous user stats gathered via our free online 'PC Performance Monitor' tool, around 34 percent of PC Advisor users are running Windows Vista, with the remaining 2 percent already enjoying some variant of the Windows 7 Beta/RC.

Toshiba has today released further details of the Satellite business laptops it's set to put onsale in the UK from the end of the month. See also: Toshiba Satellite A500 review.
The Satellite A500 models will be sold with either AMD or Intel processors and will cost from £599. Options include a 2.53GHz Intel Core2 Duo P8700 or a 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500. Whether Intel or AMD-powered, all A500 laptops will have a least 2GB of RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 graphics and come with 500GB hard drives and a Super Multi Dual-Layer DVD. A TV tuner will be an optional extra.

Virgin Media has launched a netbook that will be offered as an incentive to customers who sign up to the company's broadband service. The Freedom netbook is a 10.2in backlit screen model with 1GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk drive.
Running Windows XP Service Pack 3, it is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and connects to any sort of wireless network including 802.11g.
