Wikipedia version for mobile phones

April 25, 2007

A mobile version of Wikipedia was launched in Japan yesterday. The new service, launched by Japanese firm NTT Resonant, enables users to view the online encyclopaedia on their phones.

Typing in a keyword will produce a link to a Wikipedia entry on the subject. The page is also saved to the phone so it can be viewed when no internet access is available.

The service will be available to customers of services other than from NTT’s own mobile phone operator, NTT DoCoMo.
