It seems that the super money-off deal to clear stocks of Apple’s iPhone before the imminent release of a more advanced model has been too successful.
Reports are in that reseller Carphone Warehouse and service provider O2 have very nearly sold out.
Earlier this month O2 and Carphone Warehouse cut the price of Apple's 8GB iPhone in the UK by £100, a move seen as the latest sign that Apple will launch a new 3G iPhone in June.
The mobile phone dropped from £269 to a much-more attractive £169, and it appears that those punters holding off buying one because of price have stampeded the stores and left the shelves empty.
Either that or the offer hasn’t worked that well and O2 is peddling the story to make potential iPhone customers rush out for the “limited” stocks. And then hit them again on June 9 when the new 3G iPhones are unveiled.
(Apple still sells the iPhone for £269 and £329 (16GB), so presumably hasn’t sold that many in the past 10 days.)
