News: Xbox boss quits Microsoft for EA
Peter Moore has resigned as the president of Microsoft’s Xbox business, less than two weeks after the company revealed that it would take a $1bn charge due to widespread defects in the Xbox 360 console. The Briton will be joining Electronic Arts (EA), and will be replaced by Don Mattrick, a former EA executive.

News: Sony to kill 60GB PlayStation 3
Sony grabbed headlines recently when they announced that the 60 GB PlayStation 3 (PS3) would be dropped to $499 (£250). But on Friday Sony also revealed that this model will be discontinued later this year, leaving only the $599 (£300) model for sale in the US.

News: NTT DoCoMo trials superfast mobile internet
NTT DoCoMo has embarked on a month-long experiment of a Super 3G (third-generation) cellular system. NTT DoCoMo hopes to hit a downlink speed of 300Mbps (bits per second), it said today.

News: iPod users warned on digital music risk
In an investigation of 46 UK insurance providers, the Consumers Association's Computing Which? Magazine found that less than half provided cover for music and other digital downloads.

News: Sony to release slim PlayStation Portable
Sony plans to release a redesigned version of its PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld game system in the autumn. The new PSP, announced at the E3 conference, is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the original PSP model, which was first released in 2005. It also contains a faster Universal Media Disc (UMD) drive, used to load games and some movies, and features improved battery life.

News: UK, MSN and Live Earth set online streaming record
Microsoft set a record for streaming by broadcasting the Live Earth concerts on MSN on Saturday. The UK concert was the most viewed, followed by Australia, Germany and Japan. MSN had expected that the US show would produce the most traffic, but it came in fourth.

Dell today launched its brand new range of consumer laptops. The Dell Inspiron range of portables comes in two widescreen flavours - 15.4in and 17in - and eight colours. The eight different chassis tones range from shocking pink, through bright yellow to black.
